Overview

County Route 35 is a fairly short road passing through the Fivemile Creek valley of southeastern Mercer County. It functions as a connector between Oakvale, US 460, and no fewer than three other intersecting highways (CR 26, CR 28, and WV 112).

The entire course of CR 35 is two-laned and built to primary highway standards...which checks out, since the road is itself a former primary highway.

History

CR 35 is the former course of WV 24, US 219, and US 460. It was first added to the state highway system in 1922. The road appears to have been built anew in the 1920s, and not routed over pre-existing infrastructure.

In 1972, US 460 was moved to its new four-lane Corridor Q alignment between Princeton and Oakvale...resulting in this old segment becoming "demoted" to the county highway system. Initially, however, this route's designation was CR 460/3.

It's unclear when CR 460/3 was renamed CR 35, but it likely happened in the 1980s or 1990s. The oldest map I've seen positively confirming the number is from 2001.
