Overview

County Route 28 is a two-laned road in eastern Mercer County, connecting Elgood to Oakvale. Its course traverses Christian Ridge before descending into the Hales Branch valley, where it reaches its terminus at CR 26 and CR 35 (itself a former alignment of US 460).

History

CR 28 was commissioned in 1933, and routed primarily upon pre-existing infrastructure from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The portion of highway between the 28/2 and 28/5 intersections may have been newly-constructed for the highway system in the early 1930s, replacing the nineteenth-century road course that instead followed CR 28/2.

The course of CR 28 has been unchanged since its inception.
