County Route 20 is a former secondary highway in eastern Mercer County. It connected CR 18 in Pettry to CR 9 in Elgood, following ridgetops in an L-shaped course.
CR 20 was commissioned in 1933, and routed upon pre-existing infrastructure from the late nineteenth century.
As with CR 12, CR 20 was renumbered because it fell into conflict with a West Virginia primary highway...in this case WV 20, which replaced WV 44 in the early 1940s. Its new designation became CR 9/8.
In spite of being renumbered, the course of this road has been unchanged since its inception.

Due to the shared pool of numbers, spurs for CR 20 are described on the WV 44 and WV 20 page.
